For New Patients
Being diagnosed with cancer can be frightening. But knowledge may help you overcome your fears.
And one of the first things you should know is that, among cancers, thyroid cancer is one of the more treatable. Here are a couple of important facts:
- The 5-year survival rate of people diagnosed with thyroid cancer is 96%
- There are 22,000 new cases diagnosed every year
Most importantly, if the disease is detected early and treated appropriately, thyroid cancer can be managed effectively in most patients. There is much more to know about thyroid cancer treatment and management. As always, your doctor or nurse is your best source of information and guidance, but this section will give you a lot of the basics, including an overview of thyroid cancer, how it may be diagnosed, different treatment possibilities, and what you might expect as you carry on with your life.
Safety Information
Thyrogen® (thyrotropin alfa for injection) is used in combination with other tests to detect recurring or leftover thyroid cancer cells in patients with a history of certain types of thyroid cancer. Thyrogen is injected in a muscle, and is available only by prescription. The most common side effects reported in clinical studies were nausea, headache, weakness & vomiting. When using Thyrogen, there is a risk that thyroid cancer cells may not be detected and diagnosis of recurring cancer may be missed. If you think that Thyrogen may be right for you, or if you have any problems with the use of Thyrogen, please contact your doctor. To learn more, please see
